Boost Engagement: 10 Tips to Build Your Email List, Follower Count, & Website Traffic

At the end of the day, spiritual entrepreneurs are trying to build up their businesses to create the abundance they need to continue shining their light in the world and serving in the ways they know how. This is a noble pursuit. It's a lofty goal. A divine purpose.

I got into the business of copywriting and marketing in part because I realized that there are a ton of conscious business owners out there who have beautiful, creative, altruistic ideas but they aren’t always sure how to reach the people who can benefit from their ideas.

If you can’t reach the audience who needs your offerings, then there isn’t much point in creating them. So…

How do you boost engagement to grow your email list?

How do you increase your follower count?

How do you drive more traffic to your website?

This blog is going to give you 10 actionable tips to help you do all of these things!

Tip #1: Synergy

Is your marketing strategy cohesive and does it share one voice? It’s really important that your brand voice is consistent across all of the places where people interact with you. Take some time to make sure your website, mailing list, and social media all sound like they were written by the same person.

This helps your audience trust you to show up in the way they expect every single time. Synergy lets them know that you are who you say you are and it adds that human touch.

If this particular thing isn’t something you’re good at then you might consider hiring a professional copywriter (like me 😉) to write your marketing materials for you.

Tip #2: Focus on THEM

It’s easy to get into a habit of thinking about what the business needs and offers and creating your marketing plan and materials from that perspective. This is a mistake! 🙅

Focus on your audience: their needs, their desires, their transformation. If you do this, you will see growth in your marketing results every time. After all, they are following you because you are offering something they need or want. Make sure they get what they came for.

Tip #3: Be a Helper

This tip is especially related to interactions on social media but it is also a great piece of advice for your mailing list.

When you’re commenting or posting on social media, be helpful. Instead of trying to pitch your offering to someone immediately, give them as much help as you can. This will begin a natural back-and-forth conversation that can eventually lead to followers, clients, or customers.

As you create your newsletters to send to your mailing list, think about what your audience is going through and what they might need. Being helpful goes a long way toward building lasting, loyal relationships.

Tip #4: Make it Simple

As a general rule, simpler is better. Write your marketing materials so a 6th grader can understand them. Set up your website so that it’s easy to follow and easy to make a purchase. Your social media posts should be clear and interesting to your audience.

We often trip ourselves up trying to do too much in a way that is too confusing. 😕

Keep it simple.

Tip #5: Ask Them Questions

One of the best ways to keep an audience engaged is to ask questions. Ask them to participate in whatever you’re doing. Ask for their opinion. And then implement their answers in some way. This will help your people feel seen and want to keep interacting with your brand.

This is a great tip for website copy. Asking an evocative question can make for engaging copy. It also works in email newsletters. How many times have you opened an email from a mailing list because the subject line asked you a question? There are a ton of ways asking questions can increase your engagement on social media, too. You could try a poll of your audience or create a graphic that includes a question and asks people to comment with their responses.

People want to be asked their opinion and they will engage with your content more when you ask.

Tip #6: Give Them Free Stuff

Who doesn’t love FREE?! 💰💰💰 When you give your audience free content that is value-packed, they are more likely to spend their hard-earned money with you later. You’ve already given them something, meaning you’ve paid something into the relationship.

If you’ve ever heard of the Law of Reciprocity, it definitely applies here. People feel obligated to return a favor when someone does something for them.

When you take the time to write that eBook, or share that checklist, or give that webinar with helpful information, your audience feels like they owe it to you to continue to engage with your brand. It may seem counter-intuitive but being generous is a great way to make more sales.

Tip #7: Get Personal

You might be the type of person who doesn’t love getting their picture taken or being on camera. I get it. We all feel a little self-conscious sometimes. But I really encourage you to make your copywriting and marketing materials for your business as personal as possible.

Especially with the prevalence of AI-generated content today, people want to see your face and hear your voice. They want to know that you are a real person. Spiritual entrepreneurs work with some of the deepest parts of people, and they don’t trust that with just anyone. Let people get to know you through your marketing and they will be more likely to engage with your business.

Tip #8: Collaborate

If your business feels stuck or stagnant and your following isn’t growing, it might be time to partner up with another conscious entrepreneur. This is extremely rewarding and incredibly fun!

Find someone to collaborate with whose business complements yours but they do something different than what you do. Maybe you could be a guest on their podcast. Maybe you two could teach an online webinar together. Maybe their mailing list would benefit from your free offering.

You can get super creative with collaboration and both businesses can get a boost from the connection.

Tip #9: Call Them to Action

This may seem obvious…but are you calling your audience to action? Are you actually asking them to take the next step with you in your website copy, social media content, and emails?

If you’ve been forgetting your call to action, this could be the missing piece to your marketing plan. 📢 Watch how quickly your engagement increases when you ask people to take action.

This could be as simple as asking them to like the post or follow your page. It could be reminding them to join your mailing list through your website. Whatever step you’d like them to take, make sure you ask.

Tip #10: Show Them Beauty

People make purchases because they think the things they are buying will make their lives better in some way. Remember to paint the picture of what they can hope to experience when they buy from you. How does their life get better when they book with you or purchase your product?

Show your audience the beautiful things that are in store for them when they engage with your brand. As spiritual and conscious entrepreneurs, we are here to usher in a new age of business. We are here to make the world a better place with our offerings. Don’t forget to share your vision with your audience.

How many of these tips are you going to try?

It isn’t about the numbers. How many people are on your mailing list, or how many Instagram followers you have, or how many people visited your website this month isn’t as important as how many lives you’ve touched with your spiritual business.

Our goal in boosting engagement is all about reaching more people who we can help with our offerings.

I hope these tips will help you reach the people who need what you do and may it be for the Highest Good of all involved. 🙏
